Thinking in blocks and plates

To help keep everyone keep focused on structural thinking (and not on cutting wood) during class, we’ll be using pre-cut materials. There are two kinds of element:
- blocks: 2×4x4 and 2×4x8
- plates: 4×16 and 4×24 (all measurements in inches)

Using a limited selection of pieces forces you to think about things in novel ways…

Modular Breakdownable Bunkbeds

One of the big to-do items is making six more sleeping spots for tinkerers. Bunkbeds are an interesting study in dynamic and static loads.

BREAKING NEWS: Turns out I hadn’t counted our existing beds correctly. Looks like I won’t need to build bunkbeds after all.

The Whole Skinny

My friend Paul pointed out that it takes some diggin’ to discover that the only session this year is July 10th through 16th, that the school is located in Montara (20 minutes south of San Francisco on hiway 1), and that it’s for kids aged 7 to 17.
