The Tinkering School in-box is telling us that parents are starting to wonder when the summer sessions are going to happen, and where the application form is – more critical than the “when” is the “where.” We’re no longer able to hold the sessions at the property in Montara, and the facility that we had planned to use is not going to be available in time due to unforeseen construction delays.
Faced with a looming deadline to announce the dates, and a distinct lack of prospective locations, we started asking various Bay Area maker’s communities – and immediately started getting offers! An empty warehouse with lots of space… but no kitchen, bathrooms, sleeping areas, or power. Then William offered his live/work loft on Potrero Hill in San Francisco, but there’s not enough outdoor space for the kinds of projects we build. There’s a vacation rental, a soon-to-be day-care center, a 4H camp, the TechShop, and a couple of empty lots. Suffice to say that we have some options now that we are evaluating. Of course, if you know of a perfect location within two hours of San Francisco, please let us know – we’re still looking.
We do know that we will be holding the sessions, and that it will be in late July or early August, but until we get the location nailed down we can’t commit to the precise dates. Please bear with us while we get the details worked out. We expect to be able to announce something by mid-February. We know that this is late for some of your summer planning, and for that we apologize.
