Week 5 of summer Day camp got off to a great start this morning!

Campers started the day by developing some ideas that will inform a group agreement on how to treat one another, the space, and the tools we'll be using this week. We have some pretty lofty goals: to help one another, to to try harder than usual, to learn from mistakes and failures, and to guild something bigger than us. Hopefully, our group agreements will help us accomplish these goals!

After signing our agreements, the campers practiced using some of the tools we'll use most this week:

Campers thought outside of drills and screws in clamp practice; turned one piece of wood into two pieces of wood safely in chopsaw practice; put some of our talk on teamwork to good use during drill practice; and thought about ways to keep our space clean while practicing using the art area.

After a break to run around and eat lunch, tinkerers returned to camp to find out the theme for the week: Swamp Lyfe!  Bad news: the tide is rising, and the alligators will be here on Friday afternoon. Good news: by working together and learning from mistakes, we will try really hard to build a small village on stilts, a giant mobile to hang multiple hammocks from, and--of course--gators!
