Under the Sea, Week 2, SF, Day 1

Welcome to week 2! We're swimming right along here in San Francisco, which is convenient because this week's theme is Under the Sea. Our day started like any Monday, with group agreements and tool training on the clamps, drills and chopsaw.

Leda, Audrey, Adelaide and Justine work on building a clamp-a-ma-jig in clamp training.

After a trip to the park to play and eat lunch, we got to find out what our projects for the week would be--yay!

What a beautiful day for a picnic!

Our projects this week are inspired by some news stories we've heard in the last few weeks about bleaching of the Great Barrier Reef, and discovery of creatures that live in deepest parts of the ocean. So, we're building a coral reef, a deep sea creature, and a craft to explore the abyssal ocean.

The deep sea creature group began by listening to an NPR story about an expedition to search for undiscovered species in the deep ocean.

Phoebe and Minyoung work on constructing a frame for the base of the coral reef. The reef builders started by laying out the size of a few sections of coral on the floor, then started putting pieces together.

We're floating right along, stay tuned! And, check out our flickr for more pictures from each day.
