TSO-H Day 1-2: On the Road In Comfort

Tinkerers gathered early Monday morning to begin brainstorming their concepts for this week’s RV challenge. Everyone developed plans to provide sleeping space by way of hammock or bunk beds. However, as the imaginations roamed the wide open roads of possibility, concepts started to get interesting.

Tinkerers designed several different types of RVs including the sketch pictured above.

A sink, a food truck below a open sleeping deck to stargaze, the double-wide RV with a couch for lounging were some of the ideas that came to the forefront, and Tinkerers began to put their plans in motion.

“It’s like sleeping under the stars,” junior Tinkerer, Sabrina, said of her team’s RV.

As Lydia, a junior Tinkerer, began rolling up a section of canvas for a hammock, she said, “They’re on pulleys so you can pull them up to the wall.”

Senior Tinkerers, Bogdan and A.J., use a measuring tape to map out the size of their RV during their design session.

“I’m making the couch, and it’s kind of like a hammock,” junior Tinkerer, Thandi, said of her team’s RV lounge area.

In sizes ranging from roughly 4 feet by 8 feet and 6 feet by 16 feet, Tinkerers should have ample sleeping room to travel the roads of the Tinkerer build sites and beyond. Wheels and amenities will come as the need and imaginations arise.
