Jack and the Beanstalk - Day 1 - Mark Day School

Another week of tinkering fun begins!

In the morning we all got to know each other and we learned about the four main goals of tinkering school: collaborate and make friends, try harder than usual, make mistakes and learn from them, and build something way bigger than ourselves. We also created some group agreements that will guide our time here this week. This crew had some really thoughtful ideas including encouraging one another rather than being critical. It's gonna be exciting to see them bring this same thoughtfulness to their project design and tinkering!

After agreeing to our collective agreements, it was time for tool training!

We always check to make sure everyone near the chop saw is ready with the proper attire (safety googles and ear gear).

Learning how to operate drills safely. We also discovered how useful clamps can be!

After some grub and play time, we finally found out what our project theme will be for the week: Jack and the Beanstalk! So many awesome ideas came out of our design sessions. One team is building a giant popup book that's a portal into the world of the story, and another team is building a complicated obstacle course for brave souls to trek through once they pass through the portal. Can't wait to see it all come to life!

Putting our new skills to use!

Tomorrow is our first full build day. Who knows what these super imaginative tinkerers may come up with next!
