Mixed Up Animals - Day 5 - Week 2 (Mark Day School)

On Monday, when we discovered that we were making two very intriguing animal mashups, I don’t think any of us really knew what these creatures would end up looking like. But as the week progressed, so did our understanding of what we were making and how we would prioritize each part of the build.

Friday is a day when adrenaline runs high and we remind ourselves to work mindfully… to collaborate, to communicate, and to pace ourselves so that the work we do is of a quality we can be proud of. And we are proud… so proud of our tinkerers for their hard work, for learning new tool skills, and for demonstrating what a team can achieve working together.

Our animals not only took on forms with legs, dolphin silhouettes, a beak and wings, but they became rides. We had so much fun at the end of the day while we played, appreciated and tested our creations. And then it was time for deconstruction. Taking apart our builds is a tinkering camp tradition and it both cements the builds in our memories and fosters a sense of impermanence and responsibility to others as we prepare the camp space and materials for the next week.
