Today was our last full day of building this week here at Tinkering School Day Camp!

The Great Wave(s) had to do some troubleshooting today to get the waves upright and stable. A determined storm of tinkerers blew the waves into 12 foot structures:

The Mona Lisa has a face that can talk! The tinkerers building her had to troubleshoot many unusual screw angles and fix many "Comrades Dangerous":

And the Monet Bridge and Lilies group worked very hard to build the bridge supports so that by the end of the day we could raise one of the bridge platforms!

Oh, and we also had a lot of fun today too!

Wednesday was SUCH a productive day at Tinkering School Day Camp! We made many mistakes that helped us to learn and problem solve as the projects continued to grow. We are making new friends and collaborating. We are trying harder every day. And we are definitely building things BIGGER than ourselves!

Today was the first full day of building this week and amazing things are starting to happen!

The Great Wave group is building BIG and the wooden wave/waves is/are starting to take shape:

The Mona Lisa project has built some parts of the Mona Lisa's body and is working on a neck for her. They built a large picture frame and experimented with giving it detail and patterns too! They built large boxes as the support for their structure and are continuing to generate creative ideas!

The Monet Water Lilies and Japanese Garden bridge are taking shape and the tinkerers' interpretations of the painting continue to evolve! We now have floating/rolling lily pads (that are now green!) and a turtle. The bridge platform is nearly complete and tomorrow the challenge will be to elevate it:

We had a great start to the week at Tinkering School Day Camp today! The day began with introductions and making an agreement about how to work together during the week. Then we did tool training to learn to use the clamps, drills and chop saw! We took a break in the middle of the day to get some fresh air and have some lunch in the park. In the afternoon we had the project theme reveal! This week we will be making 3D interpretations of 2D images! The tinkerers examined a gallery of well-known paintings and illustrations and voted to determine which three we will use. The three that we chose are: Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci, Water Lilies and the Japanese Bridge by Claude Monet, and The Great Wave off Kanagawa by Katsushika Hokusai. The tinkerers designed plans for each project and have already started building. It's going to be a great week!
