Summer Day Camp
An immersive, five-day building experience in the heart of San Francisco's Mission District (and now also San Rafael!). Come build with the most creative summer camp staff in the Bay.
We create an environment that fully engages your camper's mind and body, huge-scale projects to capture their imagination, and an environment of trust and warmth that we hope will stay in their heart.
We have made: a Rube Goldberg chain reaction machine and a fully functional obstacle course , complete with a balloon pit. A sprawling city of cardboard, and a Godzilla monster that destroyed it! A NASA-style space mission complete with launch tower, rocket and mission control. Campers have lifted themselves into the rafters, and driven carts that really steer. We've built mazes for our parents and giant robots that deliver flowers. Forts from clay and bridges standing 12 feet high and 15 feet long.

Format of Camp
A week at Tinkering School's Summer Day Camp is Monday through Friday. Each week's theme and camper attendance is different and each project that we do is unique.
Monday morning is tool training and practice, and the project isn't revealed until after lunch! We format each project to offer multiple entry points for the youngest to most advanced problem-solvers, to make sure Tinkerers stay curious and dedicated to the project as it unfolds throughout the week.
At the San Francisco's Day Camp, every day we leave the building and walk to Franklin Square Park to play games, move our bodies, and take a break from hard thinking. We eat lunch in the fresh air and then return to our projects ready for an afternoon of focus and tinkering.
On Friday, the we finish up building a little early so that friends and families can come and experience the project (in whatever state of completion the Tinkerers have attained!) During this time, we all appreciate each other's hard work and creativity, and then as a group, we disassemble the the project! Taking apart the projects helps us all to reflect on and appreciate our week of teamwork, problem solving, power tool operation, and fun!
Each week is a mixed-age format for Tinkerers 7 to 14 years.
We also offer a Seniors Week for Tinkerers age 10-16 years.
We staff all of our camps and programs at 6:1 (or better!) camper to collaborator ratios. One of the best ratios for summer camps in the Bay!
